J Craft’s 42-foot Torpedo, which launched at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, is getting attention from boat owners in the U.S. Designed for day trips or cruising adventures up to 280 nautical miles, it’s considered to be the builder’s most flexible boat.
Standard power in the Torpedo comes from twin 650-hp Volvo Penta IPS engines that give her a top speed of 47 knots. The Torpedo can also be fitted with IPS 400, 500 or 600-hp engines. The pod system with forward-facing props and joystick control allows the operator to more easily move the boat in any direction and to turn it within its own length. This makes for more efficient maneuvering at the dock.
With a beam of 11 feet, her cabin has accommodations to sleep four adults. There’s also a galley with refrigerator, icemaker and sink. Other features include a high-tech helm with a suite of electronics, including chartplotter.
