Cruisers Yachts recently launched the newest member of its fleet, the 38 VTR. It’s the first boat in a new series of adventure-style dayboats for active families.
Built in Oconto, Wisconsin, it is available in two models—the 38 VTR has an open cockpit, while the 38 VTR EC has an enclosed cockpit. The enclosed version can be paired with climate control to make the boat a better fit for families that want to cruise through the shoulder seasons. Both are powered by twin Mercury Verado outboards, offered in 300- and 400-horsepower configurations. The open version was on display at the Norwalk Boat Show in Norwalk, Connecticut, last week, where it made its public debut.
The 38 VTR has an LOA of 40 feet and a beam of 11 feet, 10 inches. Weight is 15,146 pounds. Its 233-gallon fuel capacity supports long coastal runs. The hull, designed in collaboration with DLBA Naval Architects in Chesapeake, Virginia, incorporates a hybrid stepped form that emphasizes stability and efficiency. “We engineered it to deliver efficiency, predictable response, and a smooth, stable ride in all conditions,” said Christopher Swanhart, director at DLBA.
The layout includes a single-level deck that improves traffic flow between helm and cockpit. Deep gunwales enhance safety. The forward cabin includes a convertible berth and a private head with shower. The cockpit can be set up in different ways. Choices range from an open deck (ideal for fishing and diving), to an area that accommodates a big sun lounge for multiple passengers. Another option allows for an aft cabin with single berth.

Amenities are geared toward families and active boaters. There’s cooler storage, transom lockers sized for inflatable water toys, a Thule roof rack for paddleboards, kayaks, or bikes, tow bar and rod holders.
According to the company website, pricing begins at $399,999 for the base boat with twin 300s. When equipped with popular options, price runs near $549,000.
“The VTR is more than just a new boat—it’s a new way to think about boating,” said Mark Pedersen, president of Cruisers Yachts, in a statement. “We’ve created a platform that delivers yacht-level quality in a versatile, family-ready package. It’s where luxury meets utility, and it’s built right here in the U.S. for the next generation of boaters.”
