Dreamers with a sense of humor

The familiar tale of a couple who dream of chucking the 9-to-5 lifestyle to go cruising is told with an insightful sense of humor in Renee D. Petrillo’s “A Sail of Two Idiots,” (International Marine, 2012, $12.16 paperback through Amazon, 304 pages).

The sub-headline sums up the account: “100+ lessons and laughs from a non-sailor who quit the rat race, took the helm and sailed to a new life in the Caribbean.”

Petrillo chronicles the buildup to her life-changing move, the details of choosing the right boat, building a loose itinerary and, lastly, the sometimes hard-earned lessons learned in the adventure. “It was the best of dreams, it was the worst of dreams, it was an age of consulting the nautical experts, it was the age of landlubber foolishness,” Petrillo writes in one passage.
