A master anglercasts tales and tips

The tribe of striped bass anglers can be found all along the Atlantic coast, and those who know New Englander Sherwood Lincoln consider him to be among the best. “Striperman: Confessions & Secrets of a Commercial Pin-Hooker” (Shur-Bet, 2012, $19.95 paperback, 230 pages) is the story of his life chasing line-siders and the elusive 50-pounder.

The book includes tips and techniques for landing stripers, and Lincoln weaves in a few fish tales as he strives to enlighten and entertain. “My life has been a mosaic of short, interesting stories all surrounded by my single-minded quest to catch trophy stripers,” Lincoln writes in the preface. “I will share my experiences with you, both the good and bad.”

His preference for boats: a “fast and sleek” center console that’s “big enough to be seaworthy yet small enough to trailer alone.”
