Humans are becoming increasingly creative when it comes to ridding the planet of plastic waste. In the coastal country of Cameroon, the student-run organization Madiba & Nature is turning plastic bottles into canoe-shaped rafts it calls EcoBoats.

Invented by Cameroonian Essome Ismael, the canoes not only help clear the environment of plastics, but also fulfill the need for fishing boats in local communities.

This video shows the boat in action:

Speaking of plastics, in the August 2017 issue of Soundings we covered The Ocean Cleanup, an organization that will deploy floating screens to clean plastic waste from the oceans.
