The Excess 14, a fast cruising cat, made her international debut at the 2023 Miami International Boat Show. Excess, which is part of Groupe Beneteau, has been building fast, powerful multihulls since its founding in 2018.
Their newest boat is a spacious cat with a 43-foot, 9-inch hull that is available in two versions. The standard boat comes with an 893-square-foot main and a total sail area of 1323 square feet. The Pulse version of the Excess 14 comes with a longer bow sprit and a 1,453-square foot-sail area. Both versions can be upgraded with a code zero sail, with the Pulse version featuring a larger code zero of 926 square feet.

More than anything, the Excess catamarans are designed for cruisers who want the space of a cat but are looking for a better sailing experience. Excess reports that eighty percent of their buyers are monohull sailors who previously eschewed cruising catamarans for their poor sailing performance.
However, that does not mean Excess sailors sacrifice creature comforts. With a beam of 25 feet, 9-inches, the 14 boasts plenty of room. The forward deck has sun pads for relaxing and there are couches aft of the cockpit so family and guests can keep their skipper company. With two wheels, one to starboard and one to port, sightlines are perfectly clear all the way to the bow.
Belowdeck, the saloon has windows all the way around, allowing for a 360-degree view of the water and plenty of natural light. The galley comes with a double sink, triple-burner stove, oven and a refrigerator plus two refrigerated drawers. The 14 offers a variety of customizable choices. Standard layout comes with three cabins and three heads, with a forward starboard room for storage that converts to twin bunks in a pinch, but owners also have the option for four cabins and four heads in place of the storage space.
For motoring around or when the wind simply isn’t enough, the 14 comes with twin 45-horsepower diesel motors. Optional 57-horsepower engines are also available.
