The new line includes wax, soap, stain remover, teak oil and rubbing compound
Interlux Yacht Finishes is introducing a line of boat care products to complement its stable of antifouling and other marine coatings.
The company has separated the boat-care line into three categories: cleaning, restoration and protection. “We’re into boat maintenance whether it’s painting, waxing, cleaning or whatever,” says Jim Seidel, assistant marketing manager for Interlux in North America. “It’s taking care of your boat, and it’s all in the same vein.”
The new boat care line is paint-safe, according to Interlux, and each product can be used alone or in combination with the others.
Interlux All-Purpose Boat Soap is the cleaning system. The restoration category consists of Interlux Heavy Duty Stain Remover, Light Duty Rubbing Compound, Premium Teak Restorer and Premium Teak Oil. The Heavy Duty Stain Remover works on such surface stains as rust, black streaks, and exhaust and waterline stains, while the Light Duty Rubbing Compound will remove light scratches and minor oxidation from the surface, according to the company.
Products in the protection category include Interlux Premium Marine Wax with Cleaner and Interlux UV Protectant & Wax Sealer. The company suggests using these products in combination to extend the life of the wax, though the UV Protectant & Wax Sealer can be used by itself as a surface protectant.
The products aren’t meant for use just for Interlux finishes. They have been found safe on all kinds of finishes, and can be used on fiberglass, wood, metal and painted surfaces, according to Interlux.
Interlux’s boat-care line has been sold in Europe for about 10 years and will be available at U.S. retail chains for the 2005 boating season, according to the company. Seidel says the U.S. introduction is a big step for Interlux, since the cleaning market is crowded. The line was test-marketed in 20 U.S. and Canadian stores, and reaction has been excellent, according to Seidel.
Interlux boat care products come in 16.9-fluid ounce bottles, and retail prices range from $6.99 to $10.99.
