Electric boats are on the rise in the boating market, and the newest introduction is the 850 Fantom Air from boat builder Frauscher and car manufacturer Porsche.

The release is based off the 28-foot Frauscher 858 Fantom Air day cruiser. The Fantom 850 will use drive technology from the Porsche Macan electric SUV that will be launched in 2024. There are also plans to use the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) concept from Volkswagen Group.

While the groups have not revealed the power of the 850 Fantom Air yet, they have confirmed it will use the PPE’s permanent magnet synchronous electric motor (PSM) and a lithium-ion 800-volt battery. The boat can be charged at either DC or AC charging stations.

The amenities of the 850 Fantom Air include a bathing platform at the stern, two Bimini tops, an audio system and a refrigerator. The boat can accommodate up to nine passengers.

“This cooperation with Porsche gives us the opportunity to expand our leadership role within the electric boat industry,” said Frauscher’s Managing Director of Marketing & Sales, Stefan Frauscher. “There is growing social acceptance and active approval for electric boats, and our customers are also enjoying the advantages of electromobility: quiet, odorless and superior.”
