Arc Boat Company, the venture-backed startup that was formed in Los Angeles last year and designed the fully electric Arc One boat with a battery that has three times the capacity of a Tesla Model Y and a top speed of 35 knots, started selling boats yesterday.
Arc is led by a group of former SpaceX engineers who consider it their mission to lead the marine industry into an electric future, starting with watersport boats.
Arc designs and builds its boats in-house, including its battery packs, powertrain systems, thermal control systems, and software.
The 24-foot Arc One limited-edition luxury cruiser is built out of aluminum and sports a single electric motor that is equivalent to a 500-hp inboard engine. With a 220-kWh battery that weighs 3,000 pounds, Arc says the boat can go for 3 to 5 hours, depending on speed and load. It has a capacity for up to 12 people and is priced at $300,000.
It became available for preorder last year. On June 15 of this year, the company started actual sales and the first delivery is slated to happen later this summer.
