The new Minor 36 Offshore will replace the 34- and 37-footers in Sarins Boats’ fleet of all-weather planing pilothouse boats. The Finnish builder expects the 36 to debut this August in Europe and a few months later in the United States, says Carl Skarne, president of Skarne Marine in Milford, Conn., the U.S. Minor dealer. The 36 joins a lineup that includes the 25, 28 and 31 Offshore.“This is an entirely different boat than the 34 or 37,” says Skarne, who has sold Minor Offshore boats since 2008.

The builder maximized interior space to increase the new boat’s cruising capabilities, he says. “With this model, the idea is to have two proper cabins, with two separate heads, and more of a galley to make overnighting more comfortable for longer periods at sea,” he says.
The 34 and 37 had one head with a separate stall shower in the forward stateroom. The new boat has the same arrangement forward, but the builder can add an optional head in the second cabin, which has enough real estate for a single and double berth. Without the head, this area would typically be used for storage.
The pilothouse layout consists of three forward-facing seats — two at the starboard-side helm — an L-shaped settee to starboard and a galley to port with a standard two-burner propane stove and combination microwave/oven. Another improvement: You can now access the second cabin from inside the pilothouse, rather than the 34’s and 37’s aft-cockpit entrance. And the builder has added an aft pilothouse door, in addition to the port and starboard sliding doors. There is plenty of seating in the aft cockpit, with an L-shaped bench along the transom and starboard side and a port bench.
With twin 370-hp Volvo Penta D6 sterndrives, top speed should approach 40 knots, and she’ll cruise at about 30 knots, Skarne says. Specifics on pricing were unavailable, but he estimates that a fully equipped Minor 36 Offshore with the twin 370s will be about $450,000.
