Scout Boats has introduced a 35-foot double-stepped center console that hits 65 mph with triple Yamaha F300s. That’ll blow your cheeks back to your ears. Perhaps more impressive is the mileage. At about 30 mph, the 350 LXF gets 1.43 mpg for a range of 463 miles.

“For a big triple-engine center console, that’s impressive,” Scout president Steve Potts says. “Running offshore, there generally aren’t many days when you’re going 45 to 50 mph; 30 mph is a respectable speed offshore.”

The boat is new from the keel up and replaces the 345, which hit a top speed of 60 mph with twin F350s. “The redesign was really done for the triples,” Potts says. “As well as the 345 ran with twins, and as well as this new boat runs with twins, 75 percent of people who want this size and style boat want triples.”

Better acceleration, especially out of the hole and at cruising speeds, might be the reason, Potts says. “Offshore in rough conditions you’re in a lot of off-throttle situations where you really want that midrange acceleration to handle the seas best,” he says.

The 350 LXF can be ordered with Yamaha’s Helm Master joystick system or a bow and stern thruster setup from Vetus that delivers joystick-like maneuverability. “Helm Master can do quite a lot,” Potts says. “[The Vetus system] is a less-expensive alternative.”

High-end through and through, the boat shows a handsome profile from bow to stern with its flared bow, softly broken sheer and tumblehome transom. Potts has packed this center console with creature comforts and conveniences. On deck, there is nicely upholstered padding on the half-dozen seats and lounges, a hardtop with a glass enclosure and a powered center windshield, and an optional teak-covered helm deck and swim platform.

The console houses a double berth with a fold-up table, a Corian countertop, a stainless steel sink with vanity, and a head. Options include air conditioning, a hull-side door, a powered overhead cockpit shade, a 50-amp battery charger and a 12-volt refrigerator.
