Caribbean cruising advice

The chain of islands from the Virgins to the southern Caribbean comprises some of the most desirable tropical cruising grounds on the planet.

Les Weatheritt, a research economist and self-taught sailor who has sailed throughout the Caribbean and across the Atlantic for 20 years, has released the second edition of his “Caribbean Passagemaking: A Cruiser’s Guide” (2011, Sheridan House, $27.95, paperback, 258 pages).
The strength of the guide is its wealth of practical tips interspersed among the essential cruising information about weather, the quality of harbors and facilities, prevailing winds and currents, and gear to have aboard. Weatheritt also includes a glossary of local terms.
