From his home port of Newport, R.I., Theobald sets off with a crew of five, including his son and stepchildren, to take a 57-foot Nordhavn around Alaska to Seattle. There are mechanical issues, conflicting family dynamics, an obstinate crewmember and the constant threat of danger from Mother Nature. More than a travelogue, the book is an endearing look at a captain and father attempting to live life in full.
