
Corals are the foundation of healthy fisheries. Approximately one quarter of all ocean species depend on coral reefs for food, habitat and to spawn. Found across the world’s oceans in both shallow and deep waters, they are essential to healthy oceans.

Corals are threatened by pollution, disease and habitat destruction. Once damaged, a reef will be less capable to support fish, plants and animal life. Many reefs simply do not come back. Others take hundreds of years to recover.
