Adm. Thad Allen, commandant of the Coast Guard, said he has tried to make the Coast Guard into a flexible organization that adapts to its environment.
“I’m trying to create a new form of organization … that can continue to change and evolve,” says Allen, the Coast Guard commandant. “Modernization is only the work list we have right now.”
Allen will finish his four-year tour as commandant May 25, and he reflected on what he has tried to achieve as the head of the service in a speech Thursday at the Coast Guard Academy. Allen will most likely only address the cadets once more at commencement.
