A boat captain out on New Jersey’s Raritan Bay to catch of a glimpse of the full moon ended the trip rescuing two men from the water as a boat burned nearby.
An approximately 20-foot recreational boat caught fire shortly before 7 p.m. when one of Anthony Leitner’s crew saw the blaze in the distance.
Leitner, 70, of Maplewood, – who was at the helm of his 43-foot sailboat with approximately a dozen people on board – said he put the motor on the boat and headed toward the fire while alerting the U.S. Coast Guard.
“It was clear that boat was fully engaged,” Leitner told NJ.com.
