Long awaited by many, Honda has built their first production V8 engine. Called the BF350, it is designed for boats 25 feet and longer and produces 350 horsepower at 5,500 rpm.

The BF350 utilizes a 302 cubic-inch displacement and VTEC variable valve timing and lift. The VTEC system increases efficiency in the four-stroke internal combustion engine, allowing for higher performance and lower fuel consumption at low rpms. It will use 86 octane fuel, which will result in more cost savings when filling up at the pump.

The engine also includes Honda’s BLAST system (Boosted Low Speed Torque) which speeds up the ignition timing when the throttle is opened. That provides more torque and helps the boat get up on plane quicker. The BF350 weighs 765 pounds and is compatible with joystick controls.

Honda has not announced a price, but a leaked price predicts it will sell for $46,000. The company plans to release the new outboard to the marine market next year.
