Despite a surge of Covid-19 cases in the area, approximately 500 people attended the 10 annual “White Trash Bash” in East Peoria, Illinois, over the weekend. None of them were seen wearing masks.
At least 200 boats crowded the Illinois River to participate in the event, which consists of drinking and partying in large groups. Authorities had issued a warning to abide by social distancing protocols ahead of the event, but the partiers did not take the guidelines into account.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, there are currently more than 180,000 confirmed cases in the state, as well as more than 7,500 deaths.
