Latitude 41° Restaurant at Mystic Seaport opened Tuesday. Owned by Mystic Seaport and operated by the Mystic-based company Coastal Gourmet Inc., Latitude 41° will offer guests new American cuisine.
“Our partnership with Coastal Gourmet is based on the highest quality food and service,” said museum president Steve White. “With its innovative look, distinctive menu and waterfront views, Latitude 41° at Mystic Seaport guarantees visitors a unique and memorable dining experience year-round. More than the menu has changed. We have undergone a complete transformation.”
Formerly known as Seamen’s Inne, the restaurant has undergone extensive renovations since closing in December. The two main dining rooms and the tavern have been painted, new flooring has been put in and new lighting fixtures have been installed. The furniture has also been replaced, providing a complete new look and feel. Additionally, photographs from the museum’s historic Rosenfeld Collection adorn the walls.
In addition to front-of-the-house changes, the kitchen has been upgraded, as has the heating and cooling systems.
“With Latitude 41°, we believe we have created a destination dining experience,” said Charles Spathakis, owner of Coastal Gourmet. “We practice a no-boundaries approach to flavors and techniques. We support our local farmers and pride ourselves with a philosophy that is based on consistency, creativity, innovation and inspiration.”
James Klewin, former executive chef of Todd English’s acclaimed Tuscany restaurant, was named chef de cuisine for Latitude 41°. A native of Griswold, CT, Klewin began his culinary career at the age of 15, working in a small family-operated restaurant and, at 19, became the youngest lead line chef at Foxwoods’ Cedars Steak House.
Klewin was most recently selected by English to represent him as celebrity chef for the prestigious James Beard Foundation Dinner, and his well-regarded culinary talents have been featured on multiple television shows including NBC’s “Meet the Chef.”
