At least 21 Bangladeshi fishermen from three trawlers were killed and 10 more are missing after an offshore attack by pirates in the Bay of Bengal, according to multiple press reports.
The bodies of the fishermen, all of them with their hands and legs bound, were found floating at an anchorage about 20 miles east of the island of Kutubdia.
“There were reportedly 34 fishermen on board the three vessels, three of the attack’s survivors have claimed,” Lt. Cmdr. Mohammad Yusuf of the Bangledeshi coast guard told The Post newspaper.

Nur Hossain, one of the survivors, said a gang of 20 to 25 pirates started chasing them about 10 p.m. on March 26. “I was driving the trawler when they started to fire rubber bullets at us. I was hit a couple of times. I tried my best to flee away, but gave up after around two hours. Some of the pirates got on our boat and started beating the crew. I somehow managed to jump off,” he told The Daily Star.
