Abandoned boats have become a familiar eyesore for New Jersey’s Hackensack River enthusiasts. And after Hurricane Sandy made its descent on the area, more boats are clogging the river.
According to Hackensack Riverkeeper Bill Sheehan, there are about a dozen sunken boats on the Hackensack and all of them have to be removed.
While the law clearly states the owners of the boats are on the hook for removing their property from the river, locals say a lack of law enforcement presence on that stretch of the river mean little has been done to solve the problem.
