Shannon Boat Company launched a new line of powerboats designed for retirees, people with mobility challenges and people with disabilities.
The Shannon Silver Concept features models from 36 to 58 feet designed with input from the disabled community.
Shannon founder, president and designer Walt Schulz said he wanted to offer yachts specifically geared to aging baby boomers.
“Those with a passion for boating should be able to stay out on the sea as long as they like, well into their 90s,” the company said in a statement. “Ninety, after all, is the new 60.”
Features of the Silver Concept yachts include a single level from the swim platform to helm station and interior, a “knees under” power helm seat, split island double berths for easy access and linen changing, safe side decks, bow and stern thrusters, and “no dock line docking.”
The boats are engineered to add such features as lift/step mechanisms, power boarding platforms, power sliding doors and other assistance equipment, according to Shannon.
“I have reached an age where I now fully understand the issues faced by many boaters,” said Schulz in a statement. “Most boats are designed for 40-year-olds, which is fine, as long as you stay 40. My goal with the Silver Concept is that no one ever has to give up boating or fishing because of age or any mobility limitations.”
