At the opening of this week’s 2023 American Boating Congress (ABC) in Washington, D.C., the focus was on a Suzuki Marine Sea Pro 259 that made the trek from Florida on its own bottom. The journey was made significant by the use of an eco-friendly fuel from VP Racing, known as EcoGen90.
Suzuki Marine made the decision to offer eco-friendly fuels to support an effort by the National Marine Manufacturer’s Association (NMMA). George Blakely, Executive Vice President of Sales and Service, at Suzuki Marine emphasized the importance of educating boaters about alternative fuels. “There are roughly 12 million gasoline powered boats across America today, so these new fuels offer a real opportunity for boaters and the boating industry to make an impact and lessen our environmental footprint. Not only are these fuels formulated with renewable content, but they also produce substantially fewer emissions and even provide boaters with enhanced performance and reliability. This is a win-win for boaters, the industry, and the environment,” he said.
The voyage required refuel stops at various Suzuki Marine dealers. Depending on the conditions, the Sea Pro managed speeds of up to 35 knots and over the 941.5 miles traveled burned 479 gallons of EcoGen90 fuel.
Blakely was pleased with the results. “We look forward to working closely with NMMA during ABC to shine a spotlight on new sustainable marine fuels and the positive impact they can have on our industry and the environment.”
