On July 24, a large humpback whale was caught on video as it breached and landed on the bow of a 19-foot boat off White Horse Beach in Plymouth, Massachusetts. A Harbormaster boat responded to the scene and reported injuries and no major damage that would affect the seaworthiness of the vessel.

Though this interaction was rare, the Plymouth Harbormaster Department recommends that boaters keep a distance of at least 100 yards from whales to minimize the risk. Fortunately, nobody was hurt in this incident, but such encounters have the potential to turn deadly.
