Perth Amboy, N.J., is still a sailing town. The city has a municipal marina where about 60 yachts and other pleasure boats are moored. A hundred feet down Front Street is the Raritan Yacht Club with another few dozen vessels anchored in the water or up on land in its boat yard.
In the days before Hurricane Sandy, some owners pulled their boats and had them trucked further inland. Others sailed them to inner harbor marinas away from the predicted tidal surges and had them pulled.
But many owners stayed, never thinking their boats would be tossed and broken like toys at the hands of some wild, malevolent boy.
That was a mistake.
