Boating in the Northeast doesn’t end when the summer slips away. As fall comes ashore, so does one of the most pleasant seasons on the water. Autumn can be prime time for many reasons.
There are still a number of great weeks ahead to enjoy being in the outdoors. The fall cruising season can run through all of October and even into November if the weather plays out right. And often you have the waterways to yourself. Even the most popular cruising grounds—those that are packed to the gills in the summer—quiet down as traffic thins out. As a result, the process of exploring a spectacular shoreline can be safer, more relaxing and soothing for the soul.
And then there are the boat shows. Some of the largest events on the East Coast open their doors in October and November, but there are a number of great smaller shows, too. One of the newest is The Connecticut Fall Boat Show, an event presented by Active Interest Media (AIM), the parent company of Soundings and its sister publications, including Power & Motoryacht and Passagemaker.
We’re excited to bring this show to life and offer our readers the chance to enjoy a great weekend on the docks, where they can tour new and used power and sailboats of all sizes, check out gear and equipment from top manufacturers, and spend time talking with like-minded enthusiasts. There’ll be plenty of food and live entertainment, too.
The show, which runs October 7 through 9, is located at Safe Harbor Bruce and Johnsons in Branford, Connecticut, a charming New England town conveniently located near the center of the north shore of Long Island Sound. Access is relatively easy for those traveling by boat or car from anywhere along the Connecticut coast, or even from New York and Rhode Island.
“Boat owners in the Northeast want to shop for new and used models at this time of year,” says Gary DeSanctis, the president of the AIM Marine Group. “We’ve sourced a good inventory of boats to satisfy that demand, and we’re excited to display it at a new regional show in a top-notch marina and boating town.”
DeSanctis and members of the AIM crew (myself included) will be on the docks in Branford to check out the boats, enjoy the atmosphere and greet old and new friends. If you have the chance to attend the show, I hope you’ll stop by to say hello.
