Two miles offshore, on Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, June Mellor and her family were out for a day on their Boston Whaler when they spotted a wild pig swimming in the water. Acting quickly, the family made a lasso from a line on their boat to try and save it. After 45 minutes, they secured a rope around the pig and managed to get it aboard.

Named Miracle by the family, the pig laid down to rest immediately, exhausted from the swim. Mellor offered it fresh water and tangerine slices, but the animal was uninterested. Back on land, the family returned Miracle to nature.

“Looking in her eyes, you just saw the plea of ‘help me,’” Mellor told KHON2 News. The family was baffled as to how the pig had gotten so far from shore, but they were grateful they were there to save her.
