Friends of fisherman Billy McLeroy say they couldn’t think of a better way to remember him than by pulling his casket in a boat to the gravesite Wednesday in Anderson, S.C.

They made the arrangements by putting together a casket spray of driftwood from Lake Hartwell and having lettering with McLeroy’s name, birth and death dates added to the boat.

Brian Kelly, McLeroy’s best friend, says the boat was restored just in time to trailer his casket to the cemetery.

“That was going to be mine and his boat, until it was ready for him to leave, and today he got to ride in it for the first time,” Kelly says.
