Myla is one lucky dog.
On Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard Hatteras Inlet Station received a call that a vessel had lost its dog in Pamlico Sound.
Soon after, the crew spotted something moving in the calm waters and saw a dog swimming toward the boat.
The crew hoisted the dog aboard, found she had no injuries—other than being tired—and reunited her with her owners soon after.
“We want to congratulate Myla on being a good girl and an amazing doggie swimmer!” stated the Coast Guard in a Facebook post.
Myla’s story is a good reminder that you should always put a life jacket on your dog when you go boating, even though it’s not required by the USCG. And, as evidenced by the challenge the Coast Guard had pulling the dog into the boat, a jacket with handles makes the task of retrieving a dog from the water much easier.
When it comes to PFDs, it’s not one size fits all, so make sure your dog’s life jacket is properly fitted. And don’t assume that because your dog is a “water dog” that he or she doesn’t need a jacket.
