The 19-ton steel yacht is called Lady Dana 44, and her seven-man Polish crew set off to sail around the North Pole with her in 2013 — including the North West Passage.
The crew, skippered by Ryszard Wojnowski, range from 16 to 63 years in age, each have impressive sailing backgrounds and have joined together for their next great adventure.
The crew is publishing an ongoing blog of the voyage on its website, both in Polish and English. The adventure can also be followed on the project’s Facebook page.
“A hearty welcome to all our friends and those who sympathize with the crew of Lady Dana 44 sailing around the North Pole,” reads the July 13 entry by crewman Daniel Michalski from the Barents Sea. “My idea is to tell about life on board the yacht and give the details which – I hope – will be interesting for at least some readers. As the atmosphere among crew members is wonderful, we have agreed with the Captain and Misiek that there will be no censorship. We promise we will write frankly and openly. Will everything ‘fit in’? We will see. So let’s go!”
The 44-foot steel sloop has backup power from a Yanmar 4JH4 TE 55.2 KW diesel.
