New legislation in Florida aims to limit overnight anchoring in parts of Biscayne Bay, specifically between the Venetian Islands and Palm Island. The goal of the legislation is to address safety issues caused by permanently moored boats, as well as mitigate environmental damages from improper waste disposal by boaters. The legislation highlights that overnight anchoring will still be available in certain parts of the bay.

Florida boaters are divided on the topic, with liveaboard boaters pushing back. Liveaboards fear that if the bill passes, more stringent regulations will follow. The current debate attempts to set regulations on a complex relationship between environmental stewardship, boater safety and personal liberties.
