Last November, General Motors announced it had acquired a 25 percent stake in electric outboard manufacturer Pure Watercraft. That partnership quickly spawned its first product this month, when the two companies unveiled a new electric pontoon boat at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Previously, Pure Watercraft put its motors on other manufacturers boats. This is its first model under its own brand. Dubbed the Pure Watercraft Electric Pontoon Boat, the 10-passenger, 24-footer features a 66-kWh automotive-grade battery pack supplied by GM. Propulsion will come from either single or dual Pure Outboard 25-kW electric motors, which Pure says is equivalent to 50 horsepower.

The top speed for the single motor version is 15 mph, while the dual-motor model maxes out at 23 mph. Range will vary depending on speed, but according to the builder the boat could go as far as 100 miles at 5 mph. Pricing for the entry-level version of the electric pontoon boat starts at $45,000.

Pure Watercraft says its electric outboards need no scheduled maintenance and no winterization for the offseason. “Our fully-sealed electric outboard motor means there are no fluids to ever check or fill, no spark plugs, no cooling loop to get clogged and carry invasive species, no gear set rebuilding, and no annual winterization,” the company explains on its website.

The Pure Watercraft Electric Pontoon Boat can be pre-ordered on the boat builder’s website by putting down a fully refundable $100 deposit.
