As his 16-foot Boston Whaler burned behind him, a boat owner patiently waited on the bow for a rescue boat to approach. When the rescue vessel got close enough, the man stepped onto it as the fire on his own boat intensified.
The incident happened off Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and was caught on video from by local artist Dooga Royall.
The video shows the boater patiently waiting on the bow of his burning boat as Marine 5, the Perth Amboy Fire Department boat, approaches and helps the man off the bow just as the fire grows.
The Perth Amboy Fire Department reported that “on March 5 at 1721 hours, the department was dispatched to a reported fire by the waterfront. Units arrived to find a boat on fire with a person still on board. Marine 5 quickly responded, rescued the occupant uninjured and extinguished the fire.”
