On Wednesday night beginning around 8 p.m., the leaders in the six-boat fleet competing in the Volvo Ocean Race arrived at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, R.I.
The sailors are competing in the grueling 5,010-nautical mile round-the-world race, with Newport being the only U.S. stop.
The Race Village is open from May 5-17 before the fleet heads across the Atlantic toward a finish in Gothenburg, Sweden, around June 21.
This family-friendly environment features an Exploration Zone with 21 exhibits, family activities, team compounds, concerts, food, opportunities to try sailing and more. Admission is free.
