While several American states have floated new initiatives to tackle derelict or abandoned vessels, there’s little to stop boat owners in British Columbia from using the province’s waterways as a dumping ground for derelict vessels.
The problem remains sunk by bureaucracy — or a lack thereof. If they’re not deemed an obstruction, there’s no mandate to act. In other words, it’s open season for dumping.
