Rapidly dropping water levels on Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River are forcing Great Lakes boaters to pull their vessels out earlier than usual, leaving area marina owners with a shortened season.
Restricted dam flow to prevent flooding downriver caused the water supply to Lake Ontario to decrease by about 80 percent in June and continued to decline through July.
