A man was rescued Tuesday evening after being stranded on his sailboat on the Sacramento River for three days.

West Sacramento, Calif., fire crews responded around 6:40 p.m. after the man took his dinghy to shore and called for help.

The man told firefighters he ran out of fuel for his sailboat three days ago and was drifting along. Then he ran out of food and water.

The man said he was reluctant to leave because the boat and his belongings onboard were all he had. He feared that someone would steal the boat and his things if he left to get help.
