An obstacle blocking the eastern portion of the Terrell’s Island Breakwall Trail on a Wisconsin lake mystified trail walkers on Sunday.

The unexpected obstacle was a damaged white and blue powerboat that was fully out of the water after running into the breakwall Saturday night.

Investigators said the two people in the boat were lucky, having driven between two large rocks on the breakwall that, had they hit one of them, would have thrown the boat vertically.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department Captain Todd Christie said the boat crash was due to operator inexperience. He said alcohol was not a contributing factor, according to a report by Northwestern Media.
