Mystic Seaport was founded in 1929 by three local residents of the Southeastern Connecticut port town. Billing itself as The Museum of America and the Sea it draws thousands of visitors each year.

But when the weather turns cold the number of people strolling the streets of the re-creation New England whaling village dwindles so this year, for the first time, Mystic Seaport will close during the dead of winter.
