It’s likely that before you even made it out of your bedroom this morning you came into contact with some sort of plastic. Maybe it was the case protecting your cellphone or the synthetic fibers in your bedroom carpet. Perhaps you tossed your dirty clothes into plastic laundry bin. Plastic is everywhere, and unfortunately, millions of tons of it ends up in our oceans each year.
The problem is so pervasive that it’s almost impossible to imagine removing all this plastic. Still, organizations such as Boyan Slat’s The Ocean Cleanup are working on solutions to rid oceans of plastic. This video from Vice News exposes the depth of the situation and what’s being done to fix it.
