An icebreaker vessel reported reached a sinking Russian boat with 32 crewmembers off the coast of Antarctica.
The South Korean polar research vessel reached the 158 foot ship named Sparta, in Ross Sea and progress was being made on patching a foot-wide hole in its hull, according to a statement from Maritime New Zealand.
The Sparta issued a distress call on Dec. 16.
