This beacon sits on Little Cormorant Rock off Sakonnet Point, where the Sakonnet River meets the Atlantic in Little Compton, R.I.

In 1884, Congress appropriated $20,000 to build the lighthouse on the rock outcropping 900 feet northwest of West Island. The keepers lived inside, including two who weathered the New England Hurricane of 1938. A major restoration of the privately owned and active aid to navigation was completed this year.
