Dr. John Vardiman doesn’t consider the day he lost a foot among the worst of his life, because it was also the day he launched the wooden schooner he had spent 21 years building.
“It was a great day,” said the 77-year-old general practitioner from Beaumont, Texas. “In it was a little discomfort, but it was a great day, a culmination of years of work.”
