The Annapolis School of Seamanship added a Marine Weather Basics class to its lineup.

The school said the introductory class is designed for everyone and covers the basics of local and regional weather. It provides a firm foundation for the coastal and offshore weather classes that also will be introduced this year, the school said.

Taught by offshore sailor and oceanographer Frank Bohlen, the 12-hour, two-day class is scheduled for Nov. 9-10. It combines lecture and hands-on activities designed to familiarize boaters with the basic principles of marine weather and how to use information at hand to make safe boating decisions in local waters.

Students will work with case studies and exercises throughout the class.
