News accounts of two boats who fell overboard over the weekend — one in Michigan, one in Florida — had very different endings.
In Michigan, a 52-year-old woman survived falling off her 32-foot 1978 Marinette pleasure boat during a cruise on Lake Erie Sunday night by swimming more than a mile to shore, according to rescuers.
“She got very lucky, that it turned out the way it did,” Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. John Plath said.
Meanwhile, authorities have identified a 45-year-old man who fell to his death from a 65-foot yacht into the waters off Miami.
Authorities told The Miami Herald the man, a guest on a friend’s boat, fell overboard and was dragged under the boat and into the propellors
