A man and his disabled boat were brought to safety in Galveston, Texas, last week after being towed about 300 miles through the Gulf of Mexico by a tanker, then brought to shore by the Coast Guard and a commercial tow boat.

The skipper signaled for help to Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders using a satellite device from his 40-foot trimaran, named Fearless, from about 300 miles southeast of Galveston.

The skipper said he had left Port Aransas Nov. 5, en route to Key West until the rudder broke.
