Is it a plane? No, it’s Defiant.

Defiant, the New York Yacht Club’s American Magic campaign’s new AC75, may not be the prettiest boat, and looks more like an airplane, but it flies on its foils and that’s what matters.

The New York Yacht Club’s newly constructed 75-foot hull was only recently completed in Bristol, Rhode Island, but it took just weeks to get it rigged, christened and launched at their base in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. In short order, it hit the water and was seen flying and jibing on Narragansett Bay.

The club’s quest to regain the cup from the New Zealand defenders seems to be on track.
