Leg 4 of The Ocean Race had plenty of drama with two dismastings and some very nasty weather. Renowned nautical photographer and Soundings contributor Onne van der Wal was on the water on Wednesday when 11th Hour Racing barreled towards the finish line in a stiff breeze to win the leg that ended in their homeport of Newport, Rhode Island.

The 11th Hour Racing Team now has 18 points and is only 1 point behind overall leader Team Holcim-PRB which dismasted early in Leg 4 and was unable to complete the trip from Brazil.

Team Malizia finished second in Leg 4 and Biotherm finished third. GUYOT Environment–Team Europe is still at sea. In gale force winds and big waves, she dismasted when she slammed off a wave. The crew is safe and is trying to make it to Newport in time for the start of Leg 5.
