Center consoles are more versatile than ever, do-anything boats that wear many hats. They can be set up as hard-core fishing boats, family dayboats or something in between.

Most are powered with second-generation 4-strokes, and the boats themselves are lighter as more builders use high-tech building methods.

The bigger boats have consoles that are so large they can function as full-fledged cabins with berths, galleys and heads.

But the best place to be on a center console is on deck, with the sea breeze in your face, whether you’re fishing or just kicking back in comfortable lounge seating.
