When winter closes the door on boating, some sailors take to the ice rather than charter in the Caribbean.

The media organization Waterlust used an aerial drone to capture an amazing bird’s-eye view of ice boat racing on Lake Baikal, Siberia.

Generally shaped in a triangular form and fitted with three runners, some modern ice boats used for racing can reach speeds of more than 100 mph.

Active sailing clubs in North America are associated with locations that include the Hudson River and Long Island Sound in New York; Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire; Geneva Lake in Wisconsin; and Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota.
